چکیده

The biogas needs to be reformed before electro-chemical conversion in the solid-oxide fuel cell, which can promoted efficiently with wise thermal management and reforming conditions. To ensure system safety catalysts durability, additional mineral-bearing water carbon deposition should avoided. This paper conducted a detailed biogas-SOFC CHP analysis considering four layouts, featuring hot cold recirculation of anode off-gas, partial oxidation complete internal reforming. process optimization sensitivity are performed design variables including ratio, external reformer temperature. supported SOFC operates at 800 °C 0.4 A/cm2 current density. results show that pre-reforming schemes achieve highest efficiency between 56% 63%. scheme has broader self-sufficient range eliminating risk ratio 42–78% temperature 400–650 °C. no achieves maximum 58% due dilution. Moreover, is limited 58.9%, given reaction less efficient than steam dry reactions. proposed layout could demonstrate feasibility different options especially on small scale high optimal integration opportunities.

Performance of Ceria-electrolyte Solid Oxide Fuel Cell Using Simulated Biogas Mixtures as Fuel

In this study, a samarium cerium electrolyte-supported solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) was assembled with Ce0.8Sm0.2O2−δ (SDC) electrolyte, La0.58Sr0.4Fe0.8Co0.2O3-δ (LSCF) as cathode and WNi-Ce as anode. A porous layer of SDC between anode and electrolyte was used to improve adhesion of the anode ink. The cell performance was investigated with hydrogen and three simulated biogas mixtures (CH4/CO2...

Exergetic Optimization on Solid Oxide Fuel Cell Systems

Biogas can be currently considered as an alternative option for electricity production, mainly due to its high energy content (hydrocarbon-rich source), its renewable status and its relatively low utilization cost. Solid Oxide Fuel Cell (SOFC) stacks convert fuel’s chemical energy to electricity with high efficiencies and reveal significant advantages on fuel flexibility combined with lower emi...

A new approach to microstructure optimization of solid oxide fuel cell electrodes

Designing optimal microstructures for solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) electrodes is complicated due to the multitude of electro-chemo-physical phenomena taking place simultaneously that directly affect working conditions of a SOFC electrode and its performance. In this study, a new design paradigm is presented to obtain a balance between electrochemical sites in the form of triple phase boundary (...
